Authoring Plays
Special teams pulled a thread. Now I'm authoring plays and finding...opportunities.
Update
Working through special teams pulled a thread I’ve had on my roadmap, but didn’t think I’d get to it this soon: owners are going to need to author their own plays. Their own formations, their own packages, their own playbook. Time to pull it forward.
So that’s what I’ve been on. A lot of dev-test-dev-test, which is fine, it’s the only way something this creative shakes out. It’ll add depth the game needs. You can’t tell someone this is a management sim and then hand them a locked playbook.
Now that I’m actually working through authoring I’m realizing all kinds of…opportunities. Every time I add a knob for the owner to turn, three more knobs appear behind it. Pre-snap motion took at least a day just to get the fundamentals right. Play action is on-going and I’m not sure how long it’ll take.
Current Dev
Continuing to build out custom plays and test them. Play action is next. Then screens, RPO, empty-backfield sets, and whatever else surfaces as I go. There will be a lot of back-and-forth here — build a piece, break it against the sim, fix it, break it a different way. That’s the shape of the work for the next while.
More next time.
